my videogame childhood by Rakugaki-otoko my videogame childhood by Rakugaki-otoko
Most of my life has been lived in the 90s. and guess what, I used most of that time playing videogames. Want my inspirations for my art, music, and game making styles? Look no further. Here's an extensive list.

====Trying my hardest to list from left to right====

Favorite Character - Title of game I played all the time (Platform - year)

Ristar - Ristar (Sega Genesis - 1995)*
X - Rockman X 1-3 (SNES - 1993-1996)
Bomberman - Super Bomberman 2/Baku Bomberman/Bomberman Hero/Bomberman 64: The Second Attack (SNES - 1994/N64 - 1997/1998/2000)
Porygon - Pokemon Red Version (Gameboy - 1996)
Mario - Super Mario World (SNES - 1991)
Bubblun - Bust-a-move 4 (Windows - 1999)
Kirby - Kirby Super Star (SNES - 1996)
Arwing - Starfox (SNES - 1993)
Marina Liteyears - Mischief Makers (N64 - 1997)
Yoshi and Baby Mario - Yoshi's Island (SNES - 1995)
Goemon - Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (N64 - 1997)
Pac-man - Pac-Man 2: the new adventures (SNES - 1994)
Inspector Gadget - Inspector Gadget (SNES - 1993)
Davy - Chameleon Twist (N64 1997)

*didnt actually play when I was little, but I felt like including him.

These were all drawn at work to the best of my memory.

From this image, all of them put to gether like this. I realised that I love compact, simple character designs.

Wow this drawing is super, though there is an eye that you came out wrong in Bomberman

I do love gunstar heroes, but I didn't play it until a couple of years ago.
I'm still a big fan of Treasure's games!

Oh, two more. Action tittles, Bionic Commando (of course, but also try re-armed if you haven't its delicious 2-d scrolling awesomeness with an awesome sound track), and Contra Hard Corps... AAAAAND I almost forgot. BattleToads Double dragon (Me and my brother and whom ever we played with had a blast/tried to kill each other out of rage after playing, good times, such is a good brawler game with friendly damage, and players more than willing to troll the hell out of each other).

Haha, nice.
Lets see...
I have played Bionic Commando a long time ago. I was young and I thought it was too hard, so I quit. Contra Hard Corps, I have not played, but I do have the SNES one, whichever number it was. Alien Wars or something? I also haven't picked it up in a while.
Battle Toads and Double Dragon I have both played. And man, Battle Toads was still way too hard for me~
While we're name-dropping, ever played Alien Soldier? We have that on the VC as well. Also, a while back I found a freeware indie game made in the same vein as it. Look up "Iwanaga", if you dont know already~

Too much awesomeness |D
I really miss the times when videogames were simpler and entrataining. People did so much with so little resources compared with nowdays. I guess that's why I'm loving Touhou and other indie games lately.

AWWWW YEAH.
I LOVED RISTAR.

Too bad he didn't catch on like Sonic did.
I dunno. I feel like he coulda been something.

So true, that game had such ambition. Sadly, I'm sure he was created for the sole purpose of the mascot wars back in the day. Sonic was simply lucky, I think.

Poor Sonic is floundering about in his new games. I think it'd be cool if they picked up Ristar and gave him a shot.

Although, they might screw up with him too.
I dunno.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Sonic had a good solid start, but somewhere along the line, his games started to spiral out of control (but in a bad way this time. ha, Sonic joke).

So, if it was Ristar who got famous instead, he'd probably be in the same predicament.

Well, I do intend on inking this someday. I don't normally color my drawings unless they're digital, though, since all I have is an old box of colored pencils with most of the colors missing.
